The days are getting longer, and so begins one of the most wonderful times of year to visit Jackson Hole: spring. Spring in this valley boasts great variability. A string of bluebird days will be broken up by a storm that reminds us of February. Whether we’re skiing fresh powder or having a blast in spring skiing conditions, these months are not to be missed. It’s not too late to make reservations with Jackson Hole Resort Lodging, jhrl.com, for your spring trip!
In addition to unforgettable skiing and riding, celebrate spring in Jackson Hole by:
1. Watching the sunset in Grand Teton National Park
The south entrance of Grand Teton National Park is a mere mile from Teton Village. As our sunlight increases and we set our clocks forward an hour, we have the terrific opportunity to enter the park and watch the sun set after spending the day on the mountain. Rent snowshoes or cross-country skis from JH Sports and take advantage of the daylight by enjoying miles of silent, pristine terrain within the park’s gates. Explore the untouched wilderness and observe the spring movement of wildlife.
2. Taking a sleigh ride in the National Elk Refuge
Rest your legs and enjoy a tour of the National Elk Refuge by horse-drawn sleigh. These tours have been a tradition in Jackson Hole for over 100 years—offering one of the most memorable, unique orientations to our region. Observe the diverse wildlife of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem against the backdrop of the magnificent Tetons. Tours run through early April.
3. Snowshoeing the Cache Creek Trail System
Strap on snowshoes to explore the Cache Creek Trail System, located right outside the town of Jackson. These trails—favorites of locals—show off the majesty of Bridger-Teton National Forest’s flora and fauna. The beauty of this quiet retreat pairs well with a meal in one of Jackson’s award-winning restaurants. Enjoy the groomed trails that make up the first two-and-a-half miles from the trailhead, and adventure into ungroomed terrain to extend the fun. JH Sports gladly provides rental snowshoes for such days in the woods.
4. Dogsledding with Jackson Hole Iditarod Sled Dog Tours
For another fantastic day of rest, fly across the snow-covered terrain of our valley by dogsled. Jackson Hole Iditarod Sled Dog Tours—headquartered in Teton Village—offers an exhilarating way to observe Wyoming wildlife and wilderness. Co-founded by an Iditarod veteran, this company provides an experience that truly celebrates the West. Depending on the length of trip you choose, enjoy a warm lunch and rejuvenating dip in Granite Hot Springs.
5. Joining us at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort April 11, closing day
